SHELL BECOMES SPONSOR OF THE NATIONAL PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE OF TÜRKİYE

Shell & Turcas and the National Paralympic Committee of Türkiye signed a sponsorship agreement on November 28, 2023, at the Conrad Istanbul. Under the agreement, Shell pledged to support NPC Türkiye’s work in the field of disability sports and Paralympic sports and to contribute to Turkiye’s development in this area.

In his speech at the signing ceremony, Emre Turanlı, CEO of Shell & Turcas, said, “As Shell, we have been serving our country for 100 years. We work for social transformation and progress in line with our diversity, inclusion, and equality policies. Supporting disability sports and sports is also an important part of our social investments. In this context, we implemented the first Disabled Service Area in the sector in 2017. Today, our disabled guests at more than 850 stations can receive the services they need, from shopping at the market to paying, with the support of station employees or without getting out of their vehicles. As part of our Disability Living approach, we are working with the Turkish Spinal Cord Injury Association to collect plastic caps. We are converting the collected plastic caps into wheelchairs. We have also been donating a portion of the proceeds from our deli2go products to the Turkish Spinal Cord Injury Association for the past two years.

In this journey, we are proud to take a new and important step with our collaboration with the National Paralympic Committee of Türkiye. Together, we will stand by Paralympians who are breaking new ground for individual and social transformation through the power of sport. Our immediate goal is to show once again, together, that our country can achieve new success stories in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and that a barrier-free life is possible.”

Dr. Av. Murat Aksu, President of the National Paralympic Committee of Türkiye, said, “For 21 years, we have been leading the development and popularization of the Paralympic movement in Türkiye as the umbrella organization of disability sports in Türkiye. We are signing a partnership with Shell to advance our work in this area. The support of Shell, a strong brand, will be a great source of motivation for both our sports community and our athletes. This support from Shell will provide a foundation for our athletes’ success in international arenas, starting with the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games, and will allow them to showcase their talents to the world. This journey also strongly reflects our belief in our athletes and our support for their success. In this meaningful juncture, at the 100th anniversary of our Republic, the partnership agreement we have signed is not just a sponsorship, but also a partnership that touches the lives of our athletes and society, giving them hope and inspiration.”

Under the agreement, Shell will provide financial support to NPC Türkiye and meet the needs of athletes such as camps, training, and competitions. In addition, Shell will sponsor events organized by NPC Türkiye  and work together to raise awareness about Paralympic sports.

This partnership between Shell and the National Paralympic Committee of Türkiye will make a significant contribution to the development of disability sports in Türkiye and to the increase in the success of Paralympic athletes in international arenas.
